This six-week program will
increase participants’ knowledge on how to make their arts business sustainable
and profitable. The selected cohort leave with a better understanding of City
resources, business structure, goal setting, budgeting, tax law, protecting
their intellectual property, marketing best practices, creating project proposals and gain a professional peer network.
The program culminates in a Proposal
Pitch Competition with an opportunity for cash awards. Artists will work on creating a five minute presentation or "Pitch" for a project they want to accomplish in the next year. The proposal can be used to apply for Cultural Funding, an Austin Art in Public Places Commission, a crowdfunding campaign or business plan.
24 artists will be selected through a
competitive application process. Applications will be reviewed by a panel of
community arts leaders and artists, representing a range of artistic
disciplines. Criteria for acceptance are focused on the quality of artistic
work, with consideration given for an artist’s career goals and overall
readiness for the program. Artists of any discipline who are Austin residents or reside in the Extraterritorial Jurisdiction are encouraged to apply. Full-time students are not eligible.
If accepted into the program, participants will be
charged a one-time fee of $150. There is no fee to apply.
Up to five images, five writing samples or three video links (no longer than two minutes each) are required, along with three questions about your art career, career goals and ideas for the Pitch project proposal you will work on throughout this program.
